OUR STORY
Hi Friends!
I'm Taylor, the founder, designer and creative maker behind Stitch and Stone.
Stitch and Stone is a small clothing design studio specializing in hand sewn upcycled jackets and vests made from pre-loved vintage materials, hand knit sweaters and knit and crocheted beanies. Stitch and Stone prides itself on creating classic, timeless pieces that are truly one of a kind. Our jackets and vests are repurposed from old forgotten textiles and transformed into something new, practical and beautiful. Our sweaters and beanies are hand knit with 100% merino wool which is ethically sourced and mulesing-free. The yarn used for our sweaters and beanies is hand dyed in small batches, and each jacket and vest are handmade and upcycled from vintage, pre-loved materials, making each item in my shop one of its own. No two items will ever be the same.
The story behind the name.
The name Stitch and Stone echoes two of my greatest passions,
stitching (anything and everything) and family.

Stitch: My sweet Nana (grandma) taught me to knit and sew when I was about 8 or so years old. My first knit project was a scarf which likely had many dropped stitches and holes lol but I was obsessed. I proceeded to take every sewing class offered in school and quickly became known as ‘Sew Girl’. My love for crochet came around 2020 in the height of Covid-19 when I had just come down with Covid and was quarantined for two weeks. I thought what better time then now to learn a new craft. I bought my first hook, some yarn, found a pattern and jumped on YouTube to look for guidance. Ten days later, I finished my first ever crocheted project, a 3-foot teddy bear! My knitting was put on the back burner for quite a few years until I picked it back up and started to research how to use circular needles, different stitch patterns and learned how to knit Continental versus English. I became obsessed with making beanies, throw blankets and sweaters. But decided, why stop there?! With a passion for western wear, anything vintage and one of a kind, I knew I wanted to venture into upcycling items. I bought an old vintage wool blanket, cut out each meticulous piece and started sewing. What came after that has sparked this new journey of repurposing old forgotten items into newly loved and cherished pieces.
Stone: My ultimate inspiration behind anything that I do and strive to be comes from my family. Stone is my family name. We come from a long line of strong, resilient, hardworking incredible people. From pilots, to Judge’s, to craftsman and the strongest women you will ever meet, I hold our family name to the highest regard and could not think of a better way to honor them.

Our Mission
My whole life I have been considered an “old soul” and love to create things from scratch. Whether that be in the kitchen with homemade recipes or making my own clothing, blankets and other household items. I knew when I started Stitch and Stone, in a world revolving around fast fashion, I would make it my mission to help bring back the beauty of handmade and the unique quality of slow fashion with my items.
In these days of mass-produced gifts, it’s nice to give something that is truly one-of-a-kind. With every item purchased from my shop you can rest assured that it was handmade with so much love.
So, welcome to my website and thank you so much for being here and being part of my journey!
xoxo Taylor
